Chiron is a centaur in Greek mythology born from the union of god Cronus (Saturn) and a sea nymph named, Philyra. Though he was half-man, half-horse, Chiron was different from other centaurs for his wisdom, empathy, and civilized nature. As a young centaur, Chiron wanted to learn all there was to learn, so he became the pupil of God Apollo and Goddess Artemis. Nessus, in Greek mythology, was a centaur who played a pivotal role in the hero’s story, Heracles. In one version of the story, Heracles was travelling across a river when Nessus offered to help him and his wife, Deianira, across.  However, Nessus tried to abduct Deianira, prompting Heracles to shoot the centaur with one of his poisonous arrows. Then, as Nessus lay dying, he convinced Deianira to take some of his blood, which he said would act as a love potion and prevent Heracles from ever straying.  To Deianria’s shock, the blood was poisoned, and when she applied it to Heracles’ cloak, it caused him incredible agony, ultimately leading to his death.  Centaur Asteroid, Nessus is associated with issues of abuse and trauma – thus, encouraging us to confront our past pain head-on, to face it and heal from it.
